The Canadian Alliance of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Regulators (CAASPR) is a national coalition of regulators for the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology in Canada. CAASPR members work together on matters that support the regulatory mandate of each provincial jurisdiction to protect the public interest with a consistent national approach.
Due to ongoing challenges in achieving a consistent policy approach, the CSHBC Board voted unanimously on June 12, 2020 to withdraw CSHBC’s membership in CAASPR and participation on the CAASPR Board effective immediately.
The College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO), Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA), and l’Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec (OOAQ) have also recently withdrawn from CAASPR.
Going forward, CSHBC Board and staff will continue to work cooperatively with CAASPR and individual regulatory colleges across the country.
In addition, CSHBC will also continue to work collaboratively with the Council for Accreditation of Canadian University Programs in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CACUP-ASLP), the Canadian Academy of Audiology (CAA), and university programs for the three professions regulated by CSHBC.
We fully anticipate that matters of common interest among all Canadian regulators can be discussed collaboratively outside of CAASPR and in partnership with the Alliance when the need arises. CSHBC will engage with CAASPR, Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC), and other organizations on relevant matters, such as entry-to-practice examinations.
CSHBC wishes CAASPR success in its work and hopes that we can engage in mutually beneficial actions that will promote and protect the public interest within the regulatory framework.
