CSHBC has launched a new online learning course for Client Consent. This free course is now available to all registrants via the CSHBC Online Courses portal.
The Client Consent course explores registrants’ duties in obtaining client consent for health care services, and is designed to consolidate registrants’ understanding of the CSHBC Client Consent Standard of Practice (PDF), the Ministry of Health’s Clinical Practice Guideline Health Care Providers’ Guide to Consent to Health Care (PDF), and relevant legislation.
The Client Consent course is mandatory for all registrants who registered with CSHBC on or after June 29, 2020 – the in-force date for the current set of CSHBC Bylaws, which prescribe this requirement. In line with Bylaw 78(3), all such registrants must complete the Client Consent course, as well as the CSHBC Jurisprudence course, prior to the March 31 immediately after they are first granted registration with CSHBC. New registrants will be given access to the course upon approval of their registration.
For registrants who registered prior to June 29, 2020, the Client Consent course is optional. However, all registrants are encouraged to consider taking the course to build or refresh their knowledge about client consent for healthcare.
As with all CSHBC online courses, registrants completing the Client Consent course earn three Continuing Competency Credits (CCCs) toward their CCC requirement. All CCCs must be self-reported in the Registrant Portal.
