Reminder to registrants: deadline for renewing registration for 2022/2023 is March 31, 2022

Registrants are reminded that the deadline for renewing their registration as RAUDs, RHIPs, or RSLPs for 2022/2023 is March 31, 2022. Renew through the CSHBC Registrant Portal. If you do not intend to practice after March 31, 2022, please advise the College by emailing [email protected].

If you do not renew your registration on or before midnight on March 31, 2022, you are not legally entitled to practice in BC after that date. Your license to practice will automatically expire after March 31, 2022, if not renewed.

If you practice after March 31, 2022 without renewing your registration you will be in contravention of the Health Professions Act and engaging in unlawful practice and/or unlawful use of a reserved title, and subject to regulatory action by the College.

Registrants who wish to renew any Certified Practice certificates expiring on March 31, 2022, must also do so by that date.

Important: Although the registration renewal deadline is midnight on March 31, 2022, the CSHBC office closes at 5:00 pm. As such, if you leave your renewal until after 5:00 pm, CSHBC staff will not be available to assist you if you encounter problems. Therefore, we strongly encourage all registrants to complete their renewal well in advance of the deadline. No special allowances will be granted to registrants who attempt but do not complete their online renewal after the closure of the CSHBC office on March 31, 2022.

If you are a Non-practicing registrant wishing to renew as a Full registrant, there may be additional requirements for you to meet before your status can be granted (for example, providing updated documentation such as proof that you meet the CSHBC Quality Assurance & Professional Practice (QAPP) Program requirements, verification of registration from another regulator, and updated proof of your eligibility to work in Canada). Therefore, CSHBC strongly recommends starting the renewal process immediately if you will be requesting a status change. You will not be authorized to return to practice until you receive confirmation that your application has been approved.

30-Day grace period & late renewal deadline: April 1 – April 30, 2022

Registrants who have not renewed their registration by March 31, 2022, will have a 30-day period to renew their registration by April 30, 2022, before their registration is cancelled.  Applicants who renew their registration from April 1, 2022, to April 30, 2022, are considered late renewal applicants. If you have applied for late renewal, you cannot practice or use a reserved title until your application has been approved.

Applications for late renewal received after midnight on April 30, 2022, will not be accepted.

Late renewal applicants must pay a late renewal fee of $250, in addition to regular renewal fees.

Registrants who have not renewed their registration on or before midnight on April 30, 2022, will have their registration cancelled automatically on May 1, 2022.

Reinstatement process: May 1 – June 30, 2022

Registrants who intend to practice but who have not renewed their registration on or before April 30, 2021, must apply for reinstatement. On May 1, 2022, the registration of any registrant who has not renewed their registration on or before April 30, 2022, will be cancelled automatically.

Applications for reinstatement are accepted between May 1, 2022, and June 30, 2022. If you have applied for reinstatement, you cannot practice or use a reserved title until your application has been approved. Applications for reinstatement received after midnight on June 30, 2022, will not be accepted.

Reinstatement applicants must pay a reinstatement fee of $500, in addition to regular renewal fees. Note that a separate reinstatement fee applies for each registration being reinstated.

Failure to meet QAPP program requirements

Important: To be eligible to renew their registration, a registrant must deliver proof of completion of the College’s QAPP Program requirements (e.g., practice hours, Continuing Competency Credits) on or before March 31. Completion of these requirements is a condition of registration renewal and maintaining registration under the College’s Bylaws.

Registrants who have not completed the requirements will be blocked in the CSHBC Registrant Portal from renewing their registration until the requirements have been met or their deficiency plan has been approved by the College.

Failure to renew, unlawful practice, & unlawful use of a reserved title

If you do not renew your registration on or before March 31, 2022, you are not legally entitled to practice in BC after March 31, 2022. You can still renew your registration within the 30-day grace period, by April 30, 2022. You will be considered a late renewal and must pay the late renewal fees in addition to the regular registration fees.

Your registration will be cancelled automatically on May 1, 2022, if you do not renew your registration on or before midnight on April 30, 2021. Practicing or using any of the reserved titles set out under the Speech and Hearing Health Professionals Regulation, BC Reg 3300/300, after March 31, 2022, without renewing your registration, will be unlawful practice or unlawful use of a reserved title.

The College actively enforces against unlawful practice and unlawful use of a reserved title as part of its legislated public protection mandate. The College may take regulatory action against anyone who engages in unlawful practice or unlawful use of a reserved title.

Cancellation of Registration & Former Registrants

If you did not renew or reinstate before the deadlines, you are considered a “Former registrant”. If you wish to return to practice, you will be required to apply under section(s) 82 and/or 85 of the College Bylaws. You will need to meet all current registration requirements before your application will be approved and you can resume practice. This may pose issues for Former registrants who first registered with the College under previous, lest stringent registration requirements (for example, recency of practice and approved entry-to-practice exam requirements must now be met before a Former registrant can regain Full registration).
