Amendments to CSHBC Bylaws in force December 7, 2022

A major set of amendments to the CSHBC Bylaws went in force December 7, 2022. The amendments enhance the College’s regulation of Registered Audiologists (RAUDs), Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioners (RHIPs), and Registered Speech-Language Pathologists (RSLPs) in the public interest.

The BC Ministry of Health approved the amendments in October 2022, following CSHBC Board approval.

Amendments have been made to various sections of the Bylaws. The amendments include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Schedule A has been amended to include increased and new fees, which CSHBC announced October 28, 2022. The College also posted questions and answers about the increased and new fees.
  • Registration renewal sections of the Bylaws have been amended to streamline and simplify the registration renewal process and bring CSHBC in line with a majority of regulators in BC. The 30-day late period has been repealed, and the reinstatement period has been changed from 60 days to 30 days. Effective April 1, 2023, registrants who fail to meet the annual March 31 deadline to renew their registration will have 30 days to apply for reinstatement. Registrations will be cancelled as of May 1 for those who do not apply for reinstatement. Former registrants wishing to obtain registration again will be required to submit a new, full application.
  • The Practice Hours requirement has been amended. As outlined in the amended requirement, when a registrant is registered as a full registrant in more than one profession, in addition to completing and reporting 750 hours for one profession, the registrant must also within the same three-year cycle practice a minimum of 250 hours in each other profession the registrant is registered in. Further information will be provided early in the new year about prorated requirements.
  • The Retired registration classification has been repealed. The small number of individuals who were in the Retired registration classification prior to December 7, 2022, are now former registrants/non-registrants. The College has communicated directly to those individuals.
  • The Examination Advisory Committee and Certified Practice Advisory Committee have been repealed, to streamline the College’s committees. The terms of reference for these committees have been transferred to the Registration Committee and Quality Assurance and Professional Practice Committee, respectively.
  • Gender-specific language used in the Bylaws has been amended to gender-neutral language.
