Notices to the Professions

Notice to the Professions /
Registration and certification renewal has opened in the Registrant Portal; renewal deadline of March 31, 2023

Registration renewal for the registration year from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, has opened. Registrants who wish to maintain their professional status and licenses to practise as RAUDs, RHIPs, or RSLPs in BC must renew their registration by March 31, 2023, and must do so through the CSHBC Registrant Portal. In addition, registrants with Certified Practice (CP) certificates expiring on March 31, 2023, must renew these certificates before that deadline.

Important: In addition to reading this Notice to the Professions, registrants should also read the Frequently Asked Questions on Registration & Certification Renewal 2023/2024 (PDF).

Registration renewal deadline

The deadline for renewing your registration for 2023/2024 is March 31, 2023. You are encouraged to renew your registration as soon as possible after the beginning of the registration renewal period in late January 2023.

If you hold multiple registrations with CSHBC, and wish to renew more than one registration, please ensure you renew all registrations prior to making the renewal payment. Your access to registration renewal in the Registrant Portal closes at the time of payment and at that point, if any additional registration renewals are required prior to March 31, 2023, you will need to contact CSHBC.

Registration renewal requirements

Before renewing, please ensure the following registration renewal requirements have been met:

  • You hold valid professional liability insurance.
  • You have completed the online learning courses for Jurisprudence and Client Consent (mandatory for all registrants registered with the College on or after April 1, 2022).
  • Any outstanding fees and/or fines have been paid.

All of the above requirements must be met in order to be eligible to renew your registration for the 2023/2024 registration year.

If you are a Non-practising registrant wishing to renew as a Full registrant, there may be additional Quality Assurance & Professional Practice (QAPP) reporting requirements for you to meet before your status can be granted.

Certified Practice certificate renewal

Registrants who wish to renew any Certified Practice (CP) certificates expiring on March 31, 2023 must do so by that date through the Registrant Portal

Before renewing, please ensure you have met the CP certificate renewal requirement of reporting a minimum of 4 Continuing Competency Credits (CCCs) applicable to each certificate. This requirement is set out in the CSHBC Attaining & Maintaining Practice Competence standard of practice (PDF).

Update contact information in the Registrant Portal

Before renewing your registration or certification, please review your contact information in the Registrant Portal and make any necessary updates. It is the legal and professional responsibility of individual registrants to maintain up-to-date contact information to ensure that CSHBC sends emails to the correct addresses.

Courtesy email renewal reminders

Important: CSHBC provides registration and certification renewal email reminders as a courtesy only. It is the legal and professional responsibility of individual registrants to renew their licenses to practise.

Failure to renew, unlawful practice, & unlawful use of a reserved title

Practising and using any of the reserved titles outlined in the Speech and Hearing Health Professionals Regulation, without renewing your registration, constitutes unlawful practice and use of title. Continuing to practise under the scope of an expired CP certificate also constitutes unlawful practice. The College actively enforces against unlawful practice and use of title as part of its legislated public protection mandate. The College may take legal action against anyone who engages in unlawful practice and/or use of title.

Registration reinstatement period: April 1-30, 2023

On April 1, 2023, the registration of any registrant who has not renewed their registration on or before March 31, 2023, will be cancelled automatically. Registrants who intend to practise but who have not renewed their registration on or before March 31, 2023, must apply for reinstatement.

Applications for reinstatement are accepted between April 1 to April 30, 2023. If you have applied for reinstatement, you cannot practise or use a reserved title until your application has been approved. Applications for reinstatement received after midnight on April 30, 2023, will not be accepted.

Reinstatement applicants must pay a reinstatement fee of $500, in addition to regular renewal fees. Note that a separate reinstatement fee applies for each registration being reinstated.

Important: CSHBC no longer has the 30-day late renewal period that enabled registrants who failed to renew their registration before the March 31 deadline in previous years to still renew without applying for reinstatement. Registrants who intend to practise but who have not renewed their registration on or before March 31, 2023, must apply for reinstatement.

Certification reinstatement period: April 1-30, 2023

Registrants with CP certificates expiring at midnight on March 31, 2023, who do not renew the CP certificates by March 31, 2023, may apply to reinstate certificates during the 30-day reinstatement period: April 1 to April 30, 2023. Registrants must pay a CP certificate reinstatement fee of $50 per certificate.

Registrants who apply for reinstatement of a CP certificate after March 31, are not legally entitled to perform the relevant activity(ies) in BC until they receive notification from CSHBC that their application has been approved.

After the reinstatement period ends: as of May 1, 2023

Important: Registrants who intend to practise in the 2023/2024 registration year but fail to renew their registration by March 31, 2023, and fail to reinstate by April 30, 2023, must submit a new application for Full registration and meet all current Full registration requirements in place at the time of re-application, prior to resuming practise. This may pose issues for former registrants who first registered with CSHBC under previous, less stringent registration requirements. If you have re-applied for registration, you cannot practise or use a reserved title until your re-application has been approved by the College.

Applications for CP certificate reinstatement received after April 30, 2023, will not be accepted. After the CP reinstatement period has ended, registrants must re-apply for the relevant CP certificate under section 91 of the CSHBC Bylaws.
