Ministry of Health proposes name for new multi-profession health regulatory college that will be created when seven colleges, including CSHBC, amalgamate: College of Health and Care Professionals of BC

On December 1, 2023, the BC Ministry of Health posted proposed amendments to the regulations of seven health profession regulatory colleges, including CSHBC, to reflect the Ministry’s proposed name for the new multi-profession college that will be created when the colleges legally amalgamate on June 28, 2024.

The amalgamation will combine these current colleges: College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC, College of Dietitians of BC, College of Occupational Therapists of BC, College of Optometrists of BC, College of Opticians of BC, College of Physical Therapists of BC, and College of Psychologists of BC.

The Ministry of Health has proposed the following name for the new amalgamated college: College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia.

Read the proposed amendments to the Speech and Hearing Health Professionals Regulation that reflect the proposed name.

The Ministry of Health, which will make the final decision on the new college’s name, is accepting feedback on the proposed name. Feedback may be sent directly to the Ministry until January 12, 2024 by emailing [email protected].

The Ministry of Health has also posted proposed amendments to the regulations of the College of Chiropractors of BC, College of Massage Therapists of BC, College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC, and College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC, to reflect the Ministry’s proposed name for the new multi-profession college that will be created when the four colleges amalgamate, also on June 28, 2024. The Ministry of Health has proposed the following name for this new college: College of Complementary Health Professionals of British Columbia. The Ministry is accepting feedback on the proposed name, emailed to [email protected], until January 12, 2024.

The amalgamations are part of the Ministry of Health’s multi-year initiative to modernize BC’s health profession regulatory framework. Amalgamation of health profession regulatory colleges has been anticipated since a report by Harry Cayton, CBE, released by the Ministry of Health in 2019, and the 2020 report of the Steering Committee on Modernization of Health Professional Regulation
