As part of the intensive process to prepare for amalgamation on June 28, 2024, of seven BC health profession regulatory colleges, including CSHBC, the CEO of the new amalgamated college has been appointed.
Dianne Millette, currently the Registrar of the College of Physical Therapists of BC (CPTBC), has been appointed CEO of the new multi-profession health regulatory college. Dianne was appointed after an extensive recruitment and selection process.
Cameron Cowper will continue to serve as Registrar and CEO of CSHBC until amalgamation, as will the registrars of the other six colleges. Effective June 28, 2024, Dianne Millette will assume the full-time role of CEO of the new college that will be created with the amalgamation of the following existing colleges: College of Dietitians of BC, College of Occupational Therapists of BC, College of Optometrists of BC, College of Opticians of BC, College of Physical Therapists of BC, College of Psychologists of BC, and College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC.
Four other BC health profession regulatory colleges will also amalgamate in a separate college by June 28, 2024. Carin Plischke, currently the Registrar and CEO of the College of Occupational Therapists of BC (COTBC), has been appointed CEO of this new college that will be created with the amalgamation of the following existing colleges: College of Chiropractors of BC, College of Massage Therapists of BC, College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC, and College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC.
Before the amalgamation date, the CEO role will focus on establishing each new college’s staffing and culture to ensure continuity of regulatory operations, business and budget planning, and relationships with partners.
Proposed new college names
The Ministry of Health has proposed the following names for the new amalgamated colleges: College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (the college to be created with amalgamation of seven colleges, including CSHBC) and College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (the college to be created with amalgamation of four other colleges). The deadline for feedback on the names was January 12, 2024. CSHBC will communicate the new colleges’ names after the Ministry has made a final decision.
Amalgamation is part of the Ministry of Health’s multi-year initiative to modernize BC’s health profession regulatory framework. Amalgamation of health profession regulatory colleges been anticipated since a report by Harry Cayton, CBE, released by the Ministry of Health in 2019, and the 2020 report of the Steering Committee on Modernization of Health Professional Regulation.
