As announced in September 2020, the Registration Committee approved the Praxis Exams as entry-to-practice requirements for the audiology and speech-language pathology professions in BC. At that time, the Committee decided against approving the new Canadian Entry-to-Practice Examinations (the “CETP Exams”). The College had concerns about launching the new onsite and in-person only CETP Exams during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as other concerns about the administration and integrity of the Exams.
The College and the Registration Committee continued to monitor the development of the CETP Exams and has since received additional and updated exam information from its administrator, Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC). This new information included improved examination policies and procedures, and examination data from two previous sittings of the CETP Exams.
Following the process set out in the Entry-to-Practice Examination Approval policy (PDF), the Registration Committee reviewed the new information relating to the CETP Exams in audiology and speech-language pathology, and on October 28, 2021, made a decision to approve the CETP Exams effective January 1, 2022. The Examination Advisory Committee also recommended that the CETP Exams be approved.
While BC candidates may only register for the next CETP examination sitting from April 1 to April 30, 2022 (the next available examination sitting date being Tuesday, July 4, 2022), the College will accept results from candidates who took the exam before this date via another Canadian regulatory body.

The new CETP Exams are approved alongside the existing Praxis Exams
Applicants and Conditional registrants will have the choice as to which examination to take. This does not alter the total number of examination attempts that are permitted – both applicants and Conditional registrants are permitted three exam attempts in total.
The Entry-to-Practice Examination Requirements policy (PDF) has been updated to reflect that the CETP Exams are approved. We encourage applicants to review this important policy, which contains detailed information about the examination requirements.
The College is working with SAC to confirm the examination registration process for BC candidates. This information will be posted on our website as soon as it is available.

We ask that CSHBC applicants and Conditional registrants do not attempt to enroll in the examination before the specific steps have been confirmed.
