Registration required for final CSHBC Public Engagement Forum to be held October 26, 2023

CSHBC reminds registrants that the College will hold its final Public Engagement Forum (PEF) on October 26, 2023, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm on Zoom.

Registration for the PEF is required. To register, fill out and submit the CSHBC PEF online registration form. The registration deadline is October 23, 2023.

At the PEF, CSHBC staff will present about College programs and initiatives and amalgamation efforts. CSHBC Board Chair Jack MacDermot and College staff will respond to pre-submitted questions from registrants and the public. Thank you to registrants who pre-submitted questions before the October 5, 2023 deadline for submission of PEF questions.

This will be the final PEF before CSHBC amalgamates with six other BC health profession regulatory colleges to create a new multi-profession health regulatory college by June 28, 2024. Parallel with amalgamation, the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) will replace the Health Professions Act as the governing legislation for health regulatory colleges in BC. The BC Government has not yet released an implementation schedule and in force date for the HPOA.

While planning for amalgamation and the HPOA is well underway, there are still many unknowns about how both will affect registrants. Also, as reported in the September 25, 2023 amalgamation update, the Ministry of Health has appointed Allan Seckel, K.C., to lead amalgamation. With his appointment, Mr. Seckel assumes the powers of the college boards for matters directly relating to the amalgamation.

Given that planning is in process, CSHBC will answer questions about amalgamation and the HPOA with general responses that provide as much information as possible about the upcoming changes. Specific information is not yet available to answer a number of questions that were pre-submitted.

The College also emphasizes that all existing CSHBC requirements, related to registration, quality assurance, standards of practice, clinical practice guidelines and protocols, Bylaws, and other registrant requirements, are still in effect until further notice.

In keeping with statutory reporting requirements, the College’s 2022 Annual Report (PDF) and 2022 Financial Statements (PDF) are available in advance of the PEF.
